If you are a boy merely of 5 years old, then you must be dreaming of becoming a cricketer. If you have entered sweet 16 and playing cricket for the stateside, then you must be dreaming of making it to the elite National squad. If you are 23-year-old young bright player of Indian Cricket Team, then you must be dreaming about being the captain! It’s a simple mantra.

In the past decade, India has been fortunate enough to be blessed with captains who truly turned out to be the true talisman for India. But are we truly blessed as a nation to have Virat Kohli at the same time when we have Rohit Sharma?

There are many who complement Rohit all the time for his performance in different segments. Not just as a player but Rohit has also been praised by all for his captaincy skills and he said that he had been observing MS Dhoni and tried to pick up little things from one of India’s most successful captain. When heroic saga of Rohit’s captaincy is talked about then how one can forget recent Asia Cup 2018, in which our men in blue clinched victory without Virat Kohli under the captainship of Rohit Sharma. In fact when recently Rohit was asked, if he was ready to take on the role on a long-term basis as a captain he laughed on it while answering it.

“Absolutely (laughs)..we have just won, so I am ready. Whenever the opportunity comes, I will be ready.” –Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma 2017-2018 8 7 1 0 0 87.50

The Asia Cup now adds to Rohit’s win percentage of 87.50 in ODIs (7 wins in 8 matches) and 88.88 in T20Is (8 wins in 9 matches). He played less matches than Kohli but he gave an entertaining show comparatively. In spite of having such good records, it was a shocker to know that Indian selectors ignored Rohit Sharma for the two-Test series against West Indies. In fact, Former India skipper Sourav Ganguly was also surprised by this.

Sourav Ganguly

“Great win Rohit and the team @ImRo45 ..u were exceptional…I get surprised every time I don’t see ur name in the test team’s not far away ..” –@SGanguly99

And this didn’t happen for the first time even Rohit Sharma wasn’t in the team when the Indian team went for the test match against the English team. And to that Rohit expressed his agitation by unfollowing Kohli on twitter. While it could have baffled Rohit as he has been leading the team because of the only sole reason that national selectors decided to give rest to regular skipper Virat Kohli. So is it really that the Indian selectors are ignoring a really good opportunity for the Indian cricket team? But as the records show fans would definitely want Rohit Sharma to get more opportunities as captain for team India.
