Backing up your road trips,
Here is the
Road to Remember
India has a network of over 5.6 million kilometers of roads and thus stands with the second largest road network in the world! And yet, our road trip sector is a mere 0.4% of the $42 Billion Indian Travel & Tourism industry. While people love taking road trips, they aren’t able to plan them because of uncertainty attached to road travel, lack of accurate information and whatever little information is available, it’s all fragmented and scattered across different platforms. This makes road trip planning a tedious, uncertain and sometimes a discouraging process for most travelers. Hence they prefer to stick to trains and flights, despite road travel being the most cost effective and fun way of discovering India.
Sachin Parikh, a 36–yr old Mumbai-based lad, has taken a leap forward to cater all the problems faced by the road trippers and has come up with a solution through “EasyRoads”. Besides, the diligent entrepreneurs had previously served White Collar Hippie, which is an alternate travel experience company. Parikh who is an alumnus of SP Jain College in Mumbai, took an exit from White Collar hippie to start EasyRoads in 2016.
LET’S TAKE A RIDE . . .
“Our innovation is focused on these core aspects – aggregation of credible and curated information, planning with ease and access to safety services”– Sachin Parikh
EasyRoads caters to road trippers using technology. The app offers a single platform for everything related to road trips including, but not limited to discovery of driving routes, planning, booking and safety. The organization creates a community of road trippers where technology is the differentiator and content is the enabler.
UNIQUE IT IS!
While on one hand, EasyRoads is enabling thousands of travelers to discover new sights and sites and aiding the process of planning a road trip, on the other hand, it is creating new opportunities for small business owner.
“We believe in inclusive growth by helping and generating employment for thousands of those smaller vendors and local business owners running their enterprise on the road, but are either invisible or on the periphery of an otherwise booming travel market”- Sachin Parikh
EasyRoad believes that the road trip culture is about integrating these local communities with the road trippers’ experience of being on the road. Travel isn’t about visiting the most popular attractions and staying in a standardized hotel room. It is about soaking in the views none knew that it existed, tasting delicacies that have the local flavor and experiencing changing culture with every mile. These experiences are best fulfilled by these small stakeholders in the road trip landscape – highway food stalls, homestay owners, campsite staff among others. EasyRoads is expanding the options and choices for these people by enabling their discovery on the platform and making road trips easier for all.
THE SYSTEM IS SORTED!
EasyRoads is accessible via the Android app on which users can search known and unknown places to see, modify road trip plans according to their taste, find quality food places and fuel stations and access road side support services when needed. And because road trips are more fun with friends and family, EasyRoad recently renovated and updated the app to introduce ‘Trip Garage’ which allows many users in different locations to plan a trip together, an industry first addition.
ON-BOARD ACROSS INDIA
“We started our journey in 2016 with only a handful of road trips starting from Maharashtra. Now however, we have hundreds of unique road trips starting from close to a dozen major start cities throughout India and covering thousands of kilometers of beautiful experiences across India”– Sachin Parikh
PEOPLE BEHIND YOUR HAPPY JOURNEY
EasyRoads is a small team of group of coders, writers, dreamers and travelers with the shared love for road trips and the passion to change things for the better. The organization is currently a 10-member team with more people joining in as they expand their footprint.
“We are based out of Mumbai but thanks to the love of road travel, every now and then, we find ourselves working from less known towns and roadside dhabas” – Sachin Parikh
STARTING THE JOURNEY
SET OFF WITH THE JOURNEY
“DRIVE” THAT CHANGES YOUR “DRIVE”
While there were multiple factors that contributed towards the beginning of EasyRoads journey, the key drive was personal pain coming from an acutely distressing road trip experience.
“After taking an exit from my previous company ‘White Collar Hippie’, I was taking some time off and decided to drive down to Goa with my wife and kid. However, murphy’s law played in and everything that could go wrong, went wrong. We went off our route and my car decided to die on me. After that trip, while my wife decided to never take road trips again, I started exploring ways to simplify the process of taking road trips and that is how EasyRoads was born”–Sachin Parikh
PIKE TO TURNPIKE
Making the “Impossible-Possible”
EasyRoads is venturing into unexplored waters. It was first of its kind product in India so there was no road map to follow or success/failure stories to draw lessons from. So they went out with a product, received user feedback, iterated and moved towards a product people like. The other challenge was in finding the right people to add to the team.
“We are a young, small company which is why, it is crucial that every new team member is a perfect fit in the company culture and finding such passionate people is always a slow process” – Sachin Parikh
