BEWARE OF BOASTING
Vanity is inimical to the best of characters. It is easy to be plagued by hubris in pursuit of a good personality. Far from bearing criticism, such people get addicted to praise. They fulfill this urge by peacockery when compliments are not forthcoming.
Make sure that you are not hankering for applause in your deeds. You must remember that self-praise is no recommendation. Many people aggravate this malaise in the garb of ‘self-marketing.’ But, it slowly becomes a trait of their character.
It can be understood from your own experience that bragging generally repels others. However, it becomes irresistible to some people. The urge to get approval from others is a deep one. It is perhaps difficult to root it out but you can learn how to get positive reactions from the world around you.
The first step in this direction is a complete dedication to your work. Elevate your performance to a level where praise or criticisms become irrelevant to you. The desire for appreciation or fear of censure can affect your work. But to beat your own chest is the worst condition. You should concentrate on the task without judging it yourself.
Looks help frame the first impression in other people’s minds. It is cemented by your communication skills. Accept any kind of reaction with grace. Self-evaluation is healthy, only if not infested with narcissism. You should continuously look for the scope for improvement within you. Self-conceit is only detrimental to your image in the society. Vainglory shuts all doors towards the refinement of your individuality.
We are living in a fast-paced lifestyle. You need to be able to evolve with the same alacrity. Your personality will stop evolving the moment you become self-absorbed. Therefore, be a learner until the last breath of your life. There is no limit to knowledge and scope for your development. False pride is will only result in stagnation of your inner-evolution. Hence, focus solely on your actions and leave judgment to others.
