The remarkable love, fame, celebrity charm, grandiosity and wealth that a cricketer enjoys in India, has never been enjoyed by any other athlete and sportsperson in India. The other sports have always been ignored and less acknowledged the reason to which can be attributed to the apathy existing in the government along with the corruption persisting in various sports organizations.
But, the sore truth remains in the fact that there is a huge difference between cricket and other sports. Where on one hand cricketers enjoy a lot of lime-light whether on or off the grounds, the rest of the players fail to get even the trivial spotlights when needed, on the other. Apparently, we reelings earlier, but it ealize this plight only when a player reveals his disdain publically. A no. of athletes have shared their miserable fwas when Indian Football Team Captain, Sunil Chhetri’s emotional appeal knocked on the social media, we were left woeful.
Chhetri, who has played a total of 100 international matches till date, has come up with his appeal following to his Inter-Continental Cup Tournament that marked a mini mob of just 2569 viewers.
He took to twitter expressing his dismal:
“Abuse us, Criticize us. But, please come to watch the Indian National Team Play.”
Just imagine. How painful it would be for the athelet to see the nation’s passiveness for a game that is happening on the home lands and which serves as a huge tournament before the 2019 Asia Cup. However, impacts of his appeal can be seen on social media platforms where notable players as Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, and Sania Mirza have propagated this message following to which all the tickets for the match against Kenya had been sold and they even won the game by 3-0.
Next came another very heartfelt message of Chhetri where he asserted, We promise you that if that’s the kind of support we get every-time we play for the country we will give our lives on the pitch. India, this night was special because we were in this togethr.
Now, are we giving needed moral support, that is much more required on the grounds- at times needed even more than talent- to the players who are ready to sacrifice their lives to sports, remains a jolting question to all of us.
Moreover, kudos to the Indian Women Cricket Team’s Captain, the blaster Mithali Raj for her spectacular first ever 2000 in T20 Internationals clinching the crown for the very first Indian, beyond genders, to score this high.
