NEW DELHI: Indraprastha Gas, National capital’s biggest gas retailer, is planning to set up CNG disbursing stations within residential housing complexes to moderate queues at CNG pumps, E S Ranganathan, its managing director said.

IGL also plans to move itself into setting up the infrastructure for e-vehicle charging segment by setting up charging facility at its CNG stations, he further added.

The company, which is currently retailing CNG to automobiles and piping cooking gas to household kitchens in the national capital and its outskirts, is facing high pressure to reduce queues at CNG stations that is contributing most in city traffic.

Ranganathan also revealed that it has already set up one CNG dispensing pump at a residential housing complex in Noida on pilot basis.

“All we need is a 10×10 meter area – a space equivalent to one used for parking of four cars. We will set up CNG station and man it as well. Residents of the housing complex will get priority filling.” -E S Ranganathan

Ranganathan also said that IGL is also setting up e-vehicle charging facility and has collaborated up with a Dutch company. Further said that IGL is planning to set a record by setting 60 CNG dispensing stations and give piped cooking gas connections to at least 2 lakh households this fiscal.

The company which is currently running 452 CNG stations in Delhi, Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad and Rewari District, has opted franchise dealers model.

“We already have two CNG dispensing stations operating on dealer model and have given letters of intent (LoIs) for another 21 which will be commissioned within the current financial year.” –E S Ranganathan

IGL opened 30 CNG stations last year and in 2018-19 it has set a target to open even more.

“Though the target is 50, we are confident of putting up 60 stations. We gave 1.5 lakh piped natural gas (PNG) connections in the last financial year and this year we are confident of crossing 2 lakh. We can achieve 3 lakh target as areas currently out of bound like Cantonment areas are opened up for us to lay pipelines and give connections in kitchens.” –E S Ranganathan
